I didn't think I'd find any moths to blog while in Hawaii, but today there was this (huge) moth perched on the ceiling of the hotel breezeway. So here's a moth. It's a Black Witch (Ascalapha odorata), Waimea, HI, 07/05/2015. I'd actually spotted one, while hiking in Waipio Valley on Friday, but I never got close enough for a picture (and only distinguished it from a bat on a second pass, using binoculars). We're scheduled to be back by Tuesday morning, so the NH moth blogging will resume then.
