Monty and I went the Great Meadows NWR (Concord) with the kids. Quite a successful trip, in that nobody cried from tired/sun/bugs until after we got home, though we didn't do the whole loop; we crossed the causeway, then turned West along the spur for some distance, before backtracking.
Anyhow, new species for me is this musk turtle. Actually, Denton found it for us - he had been running ahead of us, and we were alternately cautioning him to stay out of the poison ivy and asking him to slow down so he could see the frogs.
It departed fairly sedately once we were done with the photo.
Monty saw a hummingbird moth, but I was too slow to get a look at it. I had a tiny blue butterfly, also too briefly to share; I will process and sort through some dragonfly photos for another post. I also saw a monarch butterfly and a very worn red-spotted purple.
When they're nice to each other, the boys are very sweet.
