I'm sure I've posted one of these before, but here is a Lunate Zale (Zale lunata), at the porch light at Monty's house. Jaffrey, NH, 2016/08/20.

This little moth is one I've sighted on each of the last three weekends - not in huge abundance, but consistant. I think it is sharp-angled carpet (Euphyia intermediata), but there's several close species, and I'm not certain. Jaffrey NH, 2016/08/13.

Parthenice Tiger Moth (Grammia parthenice), Jaffrey, NH, 2016/08/20.
I found this sitting a few inches off the ground next to the front door of Monty's house. Incidentally, the other similar tiger moths I've found at Pine Haven were also sitting right at the bottom of the bathroom wall.

For today's moth picture, I'm digging back to our trip to Pine Haven a little while back (it was attracted to lights and is photographed on a bit of egg carton from my collecting bucket). This one seems to be Zimmerman Pine Moth (Dioryctria zimmermani). Wentworth, NH, 2016/08/07.

We saw quite a number of these moths (many of them quite worn-looking), and I didn't realise until I got home that there seems to be quite a lot of variation between them. I think they are all Larch Tolype (Tolype laricis), but I'm not quite sure. It's slightly surprising how some of them have kind of a bee mimic thing going on. 2016/08/06,07, Wentworth NH.

This Olive-shaded Bird Dropping Moth (Ponometia candefacta) was on the paper egg cartons that I keep in my moth collecting bucket (attracted to lights). Wentworth, NH, 2016/08/07.

Sigmoid Prominent (Clostera albosigma) - attracted to lights in Wentworth, NH. I removed it from the sheet where it was sitting, and it played dead. 2016/08/07.

We saw several of this smallish and slightly iridescent moth. I think it's Goldenrod Flower Moth (Schinia nundina). Wentworth, NH 2016/08/06.

Monty and I spent the weekend camping at Pine Haven, while visiting the kids at camp. Naturally, there was some moth hunting. This sphinx moth was in the bucket when we unpacked it on Saturday morning. I got several pictures showing the distinctive hindwing markings, but this one that Monty took as it fluttered on my hand, I think is the best. I think it's Twin-spotted Sphinx (Smerinthus jamaicensis). Wentworth NH, 2016/08/06.

Large Lace-Borer (Scopula limboundata) - attracted to lights, and seen on the sheet in early morning; 31mm wingspan. Jaffrey, NH, 2016/07/30.
